Western Heritage Services, Saskatoon and Alberta Western Heritage, St. Albert have begun research on their fourth generation WHS Heritage Potential Modeling Program. New methods will focus on the use of eCognition and the 'R' statistical package to re-evaluate the significance of input data coverages in order to improve modeling performance over a wide variety of terrain conditions. This pilot project is already underway and results for a study area covering locations east and west of the Alberta/Saskatchewan border are expected by the summer of 2006. The results of this research will be used to update existing models in use in Alberta and to produce a new model for western Saskatchewan. Stay tuned for updates on the pilot study progresss and for a timeline of client availability.
